All Class 2 to 9 buildings need to comply with section J. Class 2 buildings (multi units) also must comply with Basix at the DA stage. Because of this, Class 2 buildings are exempt from a number of the Section J provisions. Never the less, there are still a number of specific provisions applicable to Class 2 buildings.
It is often suggested that factories (without air-conditioning) don’t need to comply with Section J. This is not strictly correct either. Non air-conditioned factories have a number of exemptions but are still required to comply with Section J
